For my first AMD assignment I re-watched my favorite German
movie “Das Leben der anderen”, which tells of the life of a Stasi officer and a
famous writer he fallows. The first time I watched it, when it came out originally,
I didn’t really pay much attention to the language and stuck to the subtitles.
This time I tried to do it differently: I started off with
no subtitles at all, hoping that what I know of the plot will help me with the language.
This was too much- I didn’t get much. But when I did turn on the subtitles I found
what a great way this was to learn German when one focuses on the language and
always tries to link the German word to the corresponding subtitle.
